The Volume is in Good Condition bound in green pebbled cloth, with gilt lettering on the spine: externally the boards and spine are lightly scuffed in general, with a split to the front hinge, damage to the rear hinge and the head of the spine chipped. Internally the leaves are generally clean and amply margined, with several later leaves unopened, and with some mild foxing on occasion, as well as the upper part of the book-block a bit loose.

The Son of a Prussian nobleman, Charles Random, Baron De Berenger, lived in england after his father traveled there to appeal for compensation for loss of land in the American Revolution. Joining the volunteer Duke of Cumberland’s Sharpshooters.

In 1814 Berenger, posing as an aide to Britain’s ambassador to Russia, announced that Napoleon had been killed by Russian Cossacks. This news caused stock prices to rise. After discovering that Berenger’s news was a hoax, which caused prices to drop, investigators discovered that six men had profited substantially from the false information. All were alleged to have been conspirators with Berenger.
